DEEP LEVEL CROSS. ! \ t The breaking down of the footwall leafder in the drive at No. 5 level was coutinued last night and 401bs of speei-. mens came to hand. The gold in the stone is 6ne, but is well distributed. The portion of the crossreef stripped was also taken down, but the men have not yet cut in to the hangingwall. The quartz looks well throughout, and colors of gold were seen at the junction of the hangingwall leader. -*■'* QUEEN OFBEAUTr.I
The manager reported on Tuesday after* noon :—" Since my last of the 4th inst, No. 10 Ifcvel, seaward; the contractors 4i|ve driven a further distance of] 6 feet, making j the total distance from the shaft 105 feet. When in 95 feet there, was a slide, i^hich heaved the reet 6 feet to the westward. We hare picked it up again^ and it is ",-• bearing iv originalicourae; it is about 2| feet in thickness, with good mineral Hidieatioos. The drive to the. northward is in 46 feet. The slide that I mentioned inmy last only threw it to the eastward 2 feet from its coarse, but it has increased , in size, and is now 2\ feet in thickness, With the best mineral indications for carrying'gold. ( We have started the fiftfc, \ "-. stopc north and sontb'of the winze; from. these stopes we are getting a great quantity of payable stuff* , No. 9 level: The drive is now in a distance of 40 feet; the lode is about 8 inches thick, showing dabs of gold' when last broken down. Ten feet back from the face, in cutting a hitch for a leg in the bottom of the drive, we got 101 b8 of fair picked stone, and left a good show of gold. In the leading stope we are now in a distance of J£-feet from the junction. The lode is 12 inches thick,, showing'strong' dabs of. gold'when last' Broken-do we,. On this level £ have let a contract for sinking a winze "to No. 10 level v There were five tenders ranging fronnßl 2s tid to 18s, 8d per- foot, and I have accepted the tender of Boyle and party at the last mentioned price, and they will commence work to-day. Connelly C and party, tribaters, have finished a -"' crushiug of 36 loads and 160 pounds of * picked stone for the good return 'of 2590z5. 6dwts. of melted gold. From \" the last month's operatmts, the '' returns hare been as follows: Moantairi 1 battery crushed 93 loads, for 96<3zs retorted gold; our own battery crushed 407 loads and 5821bs of picked stone for 7290zs retorted' gold, making a total from both batteries of 500 loads crushed,, which yielded 805ozs 19dwts t' melted/gold. . The amount lodged in bank from? gold, percentage and' tailings ia £2373 17s 2d to the credit of the company.—C. H.Wilson." . , .- . . »., SEYMOUB. A late report from the manager says: —**'I have the shaft now- ready for * *4«ding at the 180-feet, level. The guides have been fixed for the cage to travel in. ■ I have also ladders placed in the third, compartment for a footway. Also cleaned out the adit, and laid down, a proper road, as the adit drive will be required for a travelling road, when the engine is not working. I started on "- Friday night to bail the shaft out, and got it out with nine hours bailing." The' men are now engaged cutting out" & chamber at the bottom level.
LONDON. .%, The manager yesterday st&ried to * sink a winze on No. 1 reef-from'N"o. 3 level, at a point a few feet to the esstwai'd of .where driving was started on the reef. A few colors of gold were seen in taking up the reef close to the floor preparatory to sinking. Tho winze will be a good sized one, so as to have plenty of room • for the men to work. The ran of payable '' ground worked by the tri outers overhead' r is apparently dipping eastward, or towards the winze. The eastern drive is still kept going, as is also the drive bid the No. 2 reef. The latter body of quartz, however, looks rather-hungry at present. - " MABINJBB. .:-•.,- ' The crosscut for the No. 3 reef at No- l 5 level is now in 40ft from the shaft, 20ft havingibeen driven since work was started and about l'sfl more should see the reel' {? in hand. The country at first was not likely for sold, but this has'now disap-, peared, and a good class of sandstone is .being driven through. The hangingiraU leader at this level has been driven on 80ft eastward, and a little gold has been seen each breaking down. The wesfeWi, :> drive on the No. 2 reef is in 76 feet from - the crosscut. The lode averages about Bor9inches.and.Bhowßeolours of gold. In the eading slope which has been carried along this drive, colours of the- - precious metal have also been seen.
