OUR MINES.
QUEEN OF BBAUTY.
. TW cleanings up at the company's and the Moanatairi mill produced IWOois of amalgam, which on retorting gave 4600 it of gold, making the total return for the month 825o» retorted, or 806ozs 19dwts 'melted gold. The quantity of general dirt treated was Soti> loads, but there are yet on hand 15 loads of blanketings which the manager was not able to get treated. The yield from these will be included in next month's return. NEW PRINCE IMPERUI*. ; The fourth and fifth stopes on No. 2 reef west, above No. 5 level, produced 6Olbs of picked .stone and specimens yesterday The fourth stope is now j within a few feet of the break, while the fifth is about 15 feet past it. : : BRIGHT SMILE. Another haul of specimens was b gged tb'day from the eastern workings on the leader in hand, 751 bs being obtained from the second stope., The leader was broken down in the east drire to-day, and showed good colors of gold. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. In breaking down the hangingwall portion of No. 2 reef in the leading stope above No 5 level today, the manager secured 15 pounds of picked stone. la the drire, on same lead, a small vein has come in on the footwall, and at Us jnnbf tion with the main bod? of quartz, a lew pounds of picked stone were bagged today. t'i
JBBVOIS.
The prospecting shaft having bees) sook 80ft., the manager a fortnight Ago fttrted to crosscut north-east in search of the reef which he touched while sinking. The crossont is now in 21ft., and the country for the whole of that distance ha* been hard blue rock, but softer ground: is now coming in on the left hand side, so before lone the bar should be pierced. The reef is, the manager considers, lying just outside this bar, so another 10 feet of driving should see it to hand.., Another sign that a change of country, and probably, a reef, is near at hanc}, is the fact that a siaall stream of water isi soaking through the face. Should the reef prove payable, a large block can be opened up upon it, and the present level will give backs of over 60 feet.
SEYMOUB.
The shaft having been sank tbe required depth, the manager, would have started to cut out the chamber at the beginning of the week, but Mr Jobaon'a visit to inspect the machinery has thrown him back, and he will not be able to start before tomorrow. Since Saturday last the water has only risen about 30 feet, and as the two tanks will lift ISO gallons each, it will not be much trouble to keep it down. The chamber, will be finished next week, and the crosscut for the reef will then be , pushed on with all speed. The distance to drive is about 70 feet, whioh will take about three weeks or a month. . ,
'DARWIN.
This company here resolved to start operations on their ground, which issituated in the Waiotahi Creek, and adjoins, the Waiotahi QM. Co'a. property.' A survey has been made by Mr Bayldon. and a shaft is to be sank near the tnouth of the old Nonpareil level. A. plan of tbe ground in now being■, prepared,. and work will probably be commenced in a few days. , The shaftis to be sank 100 ft,. and a crosscut will then be driven to iriterseej one of the Waiotahi res fs,~" which it is estimated sbouldj be only 40 or - 50ft. away. .
HOBSOir.
The rise from No. 2 level broke through to the wince, sunk by the old proprietors on the crostreef, on Wednesday morning and a fine current of air is now playing through the workings. The last 65 feet of the rise was put up on an incline, and the manager intends to lay down boards, and use this as a pass. By this means he will do awsy with the necessity of handling the stuff so often as if he hadeleaoed out the winze to the bottom and connected with it there. The reef it aboutlS inches wide at the point where the winae w»t broken into. The quarts looks well, csrrios favourable minerals, and • eojor of gold has been seen in it. Only a very small portiort of it has yet' been broken. As soon as he has got things in working order, Mr. Gribble will startv etopjasj north-w«st, as it was in this drreotiou Adams Bros, got their best coM on the level above. Should opportunity oceor, A drive will also be pushed on at No SB lertl on the crossreef to its junction «ith the May Moon reef"a lode whiek Jfielded rich returns when formerly worked. ,„ The distance to drive is only about'6o feet.
