5 In the Council, the Gisborne Courts Validation Proceedings Bill was .passed through all its stage-, and tbe Bills of Fxehange Bill and Married Woman*! Property Bill were further considered in .Committee,—A motion by Mr Hoimea, in favor of terminating the 'Frisco Mail contract, and subsidising a direct line of mail steamers, was withdrawn, after some discussion, Mr Whitaker pointing out that the contract could nofc.be terminated as proposed ; and that the question of j.*ubsidy to a direct line would be considerttd upon its own merits.
