COUNTY COUNCIL.
BEPOBTS. The following were presented at' the meeting, held this afternoon. — To the Board of Works, Thames County Council. —Gentlemen,—-I have the honor to report that the roads in the several Ridings of the County have been maintained and repaired as well as the limited expenditure authorised by the Council would admit.,-The Ohinemuri main road is much improved, and another month's work will make it passable for winter. The Katikati road is still very bad in places, asd it would take two men constantly employed to keep it safe for horse traffic. On the Te Aroha road at lf>ast one man should be constantly employed.—AiiEX. Aitken, County Surveyor. To the Water Race Committee Thames County Council. —Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report that the tnnnel from the ! Waio-Karaka to the Waiqtahi would not I carry water sufficient \for the increased number of batteries now drawing from the castirpn main, and without authority (the County Chairman being then in Auck land)' took it upon myself to order sufficient timber; to line it,; which has effectually remedied the defect referred to, and there is now no difficulty in sending' through a sufficient supply. I would recommend the lining of the tunnel from the'Karaka to the Waio Karaka, which would still further increase the facilities, for supplying water to the various machines now using it, and sjtop the overflow which now takes place at the fluming across, the Karaka Creek. The cost of maintenance for the month; in consequence of lining the tunnel and effecting other improvements is much, greater than it will be in.,, the future.-r-Alex. Aitken, County Chairman.
