Yesterday

At the Supreme Court today a trne bill will found against Frederick Wain and wife for manslaughter.—The principal cases dealt with were a charge of escap.. ing from gaol against Charles Vickers,' and of forgery against John Jones. Tie kers pleaded that having a wife and family in Dunedin he was harassed by the knowledge of their destitute circumstances, and, the Warder not looking, he simply walked away. The gaoler gave him a good character, and he was sentenced to 12 months.—Jones, 62 years old, pleaded guilty to three charges of forgery. The prisoner was suffering from paralysis, and the Crown Prosecutor said very likely he had committed the offence in order to get into gaol, where he had been before for perjury, larceny, and forgery.
