The intelligence that the Age has despatched Morrison to New Guinea for the purpose of exploration has been announced. The London papers in xpeaking of the enterprise of colonial journalism greatly recommends it.
At a meeting of. the A gents-Generals of 1 fthe different colonies held yesterday, a resolution was agreed to in faTourof the marriage with a Deceased Wife's Sister Bill. Mr E. Murray Smith, AgentGeneral for Victoria, was not present, but sent a message to the meeting for supporting tbe proposition. . The Duke of Rutland has called the attention of the House of Lords to the depression existing in the agricultural districts, and urges a trial being .made of a system of protection. Ho denounced emigration as being quite insufficient to meet the emergencies of the case. An amendment was mored on the proposal to grant £25,000 to Lard Alcester; it was that the sum be reduced. The scare created by the attempt to blow up public buildings in London is, now moderating, and the authorities have! decided to withdraw some of the military sentinels placed on guard outside various public buildings and institutions. Sentinels were removed to-day fron% outside the Law Courts on the Strand.
The Duke of Edinburgh and General Wolseley, who were present as representatives of the British nation at the coronation of the Czar at Moscow, have accompanied His Imperial Majesty and suite to St. Petersburg. They are now staying at the Boyal Palace at Peterhoff. The body of the late Howard Payne, author of the popular song' " Home, Sweet Home," which was interred at Tangiers on the northern coast, of Africa, has been exhumed and conveyed to Washington, United States, he having been an American citizen. The reinterment took place at Washington, and was made the occasion for a grand ceremonial. President Arthur was among the large number of distinguished men present.
The Bight Hon. Berkeley Paget his been transferred from Borne to be British Ambassador at Vienna, vice the Bight Hon. Eliott.
