Thames Borough Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held last evening. Present—Crs Speight (in the chair), Carpenter, Mennie, McGowan, Osborne, Yeale, and Wilson. The minutes of the last meeting were confirmed.—The arbitrators (Messrs Hollis and Craig.) forwarded their decision in the matter of Mr Ehrenfried's claim and the Waiotahi aqueduct.—Mr Brown's application for a slaughtering license for small cattle in connection with the slaughterhouse at Tararu was acceded to. —A complaint from Mr W. Bead of the state of the watertable in Kirkwood street was re* ferred to the Works Committee. —The St. George's Hall question again cropped up; Mr Ehren fried appeared, and complained of the way the Council had acted. After some discussion Cr Carpenter gave notice of a motion to the effect that the former resolution be rescinded, and the matter opened,up afresh, —A letter was received from Mr S. Ensor applying for a return of £5 alleged by him to have been overpaid on account of a publicans' license. The letter was ordered to be acknowledged—Leave was given to Thomas Miliett to remove slips on the Sunbeam road. — The County Clerk asked that repairs to the culvert in Bolleston street should be undertaken by the Borough, and stated that the services of the County .Surveyor were available in doing the work. It was agreed that it should be done—Legal correspondence re stoppage of gold duty was referred to the Finance Committee—The Works Committee recommended that the Waiotahi aqueduct be taken over from Mr MeDermont, the contractor, subject to certain deductions for unfinished work. This was adopted; as was also the report of the Finance Committee.—Bates were struck as follows: —General, Is; Library, Id; and water, 5 per cent.—His Worship the Mayor, Crs Speight, and Mennie, were delegated to represent the Council at the meeting of local bodies re amalgamation.
