A deputation of several Presbyterian ministers and members of Parliament waited upon thff Hon. James Service to-, day to urge the importance of the colonies uniting to move the Imperial Government to annex New Hebrides, Solomon Jslandsi |
and New Britain, and to establish a Pro tectorateover these groups.—The Premier, iii replying, stated he believed that it was England^ special mission to civilise aad elevate the dark races, and promised that he would consult his colleagues in the matter, and take steps to further the views of the deputatiou as far as possible. Mr Service added that he attached great weight to the resolution of the colonial legislators which was better than Ministerial action.
Sailed, this afternoon : The Union Com pany's steamship Tarawera, for the Bluff.
