OUR MINES.
THAMES GOLDEN CROWN
The manager is driving north-west on the first leader cut in the intermediate crosscut between the 100 and 170 feet levels. It is from 15 to 18 inches wide, and l.'oks better than where first:pissed through. A trial crashing gave a pay* able yield. The contractors for driving seaward on the reef at the 170.1eve1,/ have driven 25 feet since starting, which leaves 70 feet to go before the junction of the No. 2 battery level reef will be met with and 110 feet before the slide can be expected. The reef in the face is 4 feet '
wide, and the quartz shows a considerable improvement since work was started. The leader met with on the fool wall has not yet functioned with the main body, but ia striking parallel with it. At this level ■ also, Mr Dunlop has opened up on a small leader in the hangingwall of the No. 5 reef, Cure section, He has driven about 15 feet on it, gold being seen all the way, and is now getting ready to start stoping. The crosscut at the brace level has not yet intersected Herival's leader.
CALEDONIAN. Several of the men are now engaged repairing the chamber at No. 1 level, and the worst of the work will be done by to- > morrow. Very liule work is going on at present on the Bed Queen leaders, but gold is seen in the quartz broken. Over 50 loads of dirfe are' now in the hoppers froui hero: KUKANDI HILL Since Tuesday morning the manager 'hat had some of the men employed cutting a trench on the seaward side of the reservoir, so as to definitely ascertain the position of Barry's reef. The trench is down to the old bed of the creek, and the manager is saving the wash dirt, which he estimates will yield enough gold to pay for the expense of taking it oat. The 1 country in the northern crosscut from the shaft is still tight, but is improving. It is probable that another leader will be passed through before, the reef is cut. < NEW MANUKAU. \' Since the leader on which the winze was sunk from the Waiotahi bottom level
j was cut in the crosscut, the manager bas driven 14ft on it, and expects to hole through this week. The country is good, and the leader, which is about 10 inches wide, carries excellent minerals for gold, though uone has yet been seen in it. The quartz is, however, being saved for crushing. LONDON. About six feet of th<* No. 1 reef in the eastern drive at No. li level was broken down today, The quartz averages .two, feet in width, carries good mineral, and a few colors of gojd were seen in it. The manager will probably have a few loads treated shortly.
KEUBEN PAKR.. ,' t . The manager reports:—ln the mine we have turned the drive a little to the right in order to avoid the hard country if we cati, as it appears to be pretty large, and I am satisfied the lode will not come down on that hard country. I may mention, by turning to the right we are in a better class of country, which shows Bigns of improving. I hope to get around the hard country and pick up the lode, if it comes down, very shortly. WAIOTAHI.
A late report from the manager says :— I find ibe dirt is rery changeable iq tbe
new blocks west on No. 2 and No; 3 lodes, but it should improve upwards. No. 2 level: I have been doing a lot of prospecting on a lar"ge lode that I met in the Imperial City ground. The lode is still of that changeable character, but I find small leaders in the footwall which pay w«ll to take out, so that I have stuck to the small leaders.. . >-
