Mr Carkeek the surveyor, who was employed to exotore tße country between Stratford and Manakau, for a route for a railway; reports thafc the coantry through which he went was good land, and that there were many suitable routes for either roads or railways. He says there are no engineering difficulties in the. way. Mv Carkeek corroborates all that Mr Cheal the surveyor, now of Auckland, reported eight years ago, respecting "the country. Mr. Cheal then said the first .sixty miles was undoubtedly a good line for a railway, and he say?-no difficulties for a.line being taken lal6ng the route he went towards Auckland.
