This day,

His Excellency, who is a guest of Mr Thomas Tanner, rode out yesterday, visiting the places of interest in the district of Hastings, and inspected Messrs Nelson and Williams boiling-down and meat-preserving works at Tomoana today. He went by special train to Takapau, and it is expected he will return to town to-morrow, embarking at 10 o'clock for Wellington. The vital statistics for the month of May are:—Births, 27; marriages, 8; deaths, 14. The Hon. J. N. Wilson delivered an address to the Working Men's Club on the nationalisation of the land, and was referred to by Sir G-. Whitmore.
