Mr W. J. Tricket, M.P. for Paddington, has been offered and has accepted a seat in the Cabinet with the portfolio of Postmaster-General recently resigned by Mr Wright, the Minister for Public Works.
The Orient steamer Austral made atrip outside the Heads today, prior to her departure for England for refitting. A large party were on board the vessel dur jng the run, which was pronounced to be very satisfatory.

Carter's jeweller's shop in Collins street was broken into and robbed during last night. Goods to the value of £2000 are missing. No arrests have yet been made. The Anstralian overland line is interrupted.

At the wool sales 91,000 bales have been catalogued, and 7000 withdrawn. Faulty merino and cross-bred wools con» tioue a halfpenny per pound.below March rates, but the price of sound combing qualities is improving.
