Yeaterday,

Early this morning three nine roomed houses, belonging to Frank and Walter Hall, Pound road, Sydenbam, were burned down. The origin of the fire is unknown. It began in the kitchen of the house occupied by the Halls. The next house, occupied by Mr J. W. Kelly, and another un« occupied, were quickly destroyed, no water being at hand. The bouses were insured—£9oo in the Standard, £800 in the Norwich,|£3oo in the Union, and £200 in the Northern. Hall's furniture was insured for £403 in the New Zealand, and Kelly's for £300 in the National.

At 4 a.m., Brown's sawmills, near the gasworks at Sydenham, weqealso burned. No cause in assigned. They were in* sured in the New Zealand Office for £750.
