De Lesseps has published a statement to the effect that the present company would be prepared to construct a second canal through the Isthmus of Suez.
The Phoenix Park Murderers
Sentenced.
Joseph Mullett and E. McCaffery have been found guilty of participation in the Pboenix Park murders, and have been sentenced to ten years' penal servitude. Thos. Doyle received a sentence of five years. Edward O'Brien, William Maroney, and Daniel Delaney, who pleaded guilty, have been sentenced to 10 years jpenal servitude. The special commission for the trial of the Phoenix Park prisoners has now been closed.
Her Majesty's gunboats, Goshawk and Raven, have been ordered to proceed to Australia to replace the schooners now on that station.
London, May 17. A Big Fight.
The Usibepu, under Ohain, bave given battle to Cetewayo, and defeated him, inflicting a loss of 6000 men.
Calcutta, May 16
Intelligence is to band from Cabul an* nouncing that further fighting has occurred between the Ameer's troops and the Afghan rebel tribes. A desperate attempt was made by the Schiwarrees, who were recently repulsed, to regain their loss, but they were again severely defeated; their loss being estimated at fully 700 killed. The tribes who»have hitherto refused to give allegiance to the Ameer are now tendering their submission, and it is believed that the pacification of his kingdom will shortly be completed by the Ameer. London May 16. At the opening of the wool sales to-day the prices realised for inferior and faulty wools were rather lower than at the close of last sales. Much faulty wool was offered during the day* Foreign buyers are operating more freely than during the February auctions.

London, May 15. Baron de Lesseps' old Canal Company will probably construct a second canal. In consequence of the recent action of the Pope the supporters of Archbishop Croke threaten to withhold their Peter's Pence.
May 16. Her Majesty has now recovered sufficiently to be able to take short walks.
The dynamite faction in New York have threatened the Governor-General and Premier of Canada.
Mr Gladstone has declined to accede to the Canadian Land Company's scheme for assisting Irish emigration. Upwards of a hundred members of Parliament have waited on Mr Gladstone, urging him to admit qualified women to the county franchise.
