Sydney, May 5.
If the Australian Colonies enter the Postal Union, there will be further loss to Victoria, in consequence of the low union rates of transit. The Imperial Government offer to continue its contribution of £30,000. This will leave £20,000 to be contributed by Australia. If this is accepted Victoria will find half the amount, leaving the balance to be contributed by th<3 Australian colonies.
The manager of the Orient Company entertained the Ministers and postal delegates and a large company aboard the Orient. Several toasts were proposed, and the policy of the Government recognising the Orient Company was strongly advocated. The Colonial Secretary expressed a hope that the present Government would be the means of doing some* something in this direction. The advantage of employing the Orient steamers as immigrant vessels was also referred to. Typhoid fever is prevalent. Many of the patients have been removed to the Sanatorium and Little Bay. Mr Kedmond has reached Newcastle, and will probably arrive in Sydney next week.

Sir Arthur Kennedy left for England per tbe Orient. Sir Arthur Palmer was sworn in as Acting-Governor. Melboubne, May 5.
The opening of the Museum and Library on Sundays was strongly opposed by the Presbyterian Assembly. James Martin, a youth, has ' been remanded on a. charge of setting fire to the ship Leicester Castle. Thomas McLeod Palmer was acquitted on the charge manslaughter by shooting an Afghan* The verdict was received with applause. About £1200 has been already sub* scribed to tbe O'Loghlen Testimonial .Fund.
