AUCKLAND.
This day. Lady Jervois gave a ball at the Government House last night.
Mr L. D. Nathan, while travelling through Egypt recently, purchased, a number of curiosities, which he has presented to the Museum.
The Governor will open the University on Monday week.
The Colonial Secretary has cabled to the Agent General to appoint a successor to Professor Walker, from the applications already in hand (25) if desirable.
The body of Alison, a bushman, was found at the foot of a cliff near Mechanics Bay. He had evidently fallen over. The deceased had been in town for a month drinking heavily.
