The Bank rate of discount has been today fixed at 4 per cent, being an increase of 1 per cent.

Tenders for the Queensland loan of two and a half millions were opened to day. The total amount of tenders received was £2,650,000. Tenders at 97 will receive 93 per cent., above that in full;
Thejecoud trial of Timothy. Kelly for the murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr Burke concluded at Dublin to-day. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, and sentence of death was passed upon the prisoner. Pabis, May 9. It has transpired that M. Kergaree, the French Consul at Tbinnai, is the bearer of a despatch from President Grevy to Tudue, the Regent of Annam, regarding the claims of France in Tonquin. The document, after referring to the circumstances under which Franae guaranteed the independence of the King of Annam against China, by the treaty of Saigon, in 1874, declares that the impotence of the Government, which has been displayed by the Regent, constrains France to adopt measures to secure the better administration of the kingdom, and in this view the French Government have now definitely decided to occupy the Province of Tonquin, and to assume the control of Anna* mese foreign relation*; also to collect the Customs duties and taxes. President Grevy offers to grant an annual subsidy to the King as compensation if the terms are accepted.
London, May 10. The brother of Joseph Brady, who was sentenced to death on the 13th nit., for the murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr Burke, has been summoned on a charge of sending threatening letters to the fore*
man of the jury by which Joseph Brady was found guilty.
Bradlaugh addressed a crowded meeting of his constituents at Northampton last night. In the course of his address he promised to persist in his endeavours to take his seat in Parliament. An enthu* siastic reception was accorded him.

The London Chartered Bank of Australia have declared a dividend of 3 per cent, for the past half-year, and carried forward £15,000 for the reserve fund.

The German Reichstag has rejected the chief proposal of Prince Bismarck for the suppression of the Socalists agitation. Earl Dufferin, in a letter to Cherif Pasha, states unofficially that the English Government will guarantee the permanency of the new system of Government in Egypt. Circumstances have occurred which renders it probable that the Tichborne case will be.re-opened. The House of Lords has rejected the bill for opening the Museums on Sundays. The French Ministry have brought down b stringent bill forbidding antiRepublican demonstrations.
