The object of thia Company is to provide tonnage suitable tr> the growing trade of the ' Port of Auckland, so that the imports and exports of our citj may be as much as possible carried in locally owned VESSELS, and the shipping business carried on by a PtfRBTiT LOCAL COMPANX. The *ates of freights current in this colony compare most'favorably with those ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule sufficiently remunerative to leave a good profit, trading hence eit er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commermercial im ortance of Auckland is a eource of gratificut'on, and the shipping trade, under skilful management, and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World with which we are at present not in absolutely direct communication. The object, of this Company is to provide vessels to trade in the directions already opened, and others which may from time to time offer inducements. There is ample room for a well-organised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New Ytrk, and with tome of the larg r centres of Continental European trades. Of [course, ihe large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber will form an important, adjunct. A trade wilh Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Ac., being already established could easily be continued with . regularity, whilst the Newcastle and' Grcsymouth coal trades should be aUc) provided for. There is a vast field in prospective for a good trade with At erica, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The Cape, Noumea, and nnmerouß foreign por.s, with some of which, even at the present moment, a profitable direct trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and which would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments. The -Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in'the event of their own Dot being immediately available. Messrs Stone Bros., who have for some time carried on a good snipping. business, and who have now, fairly started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their vessels and the goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650), they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet, consisting of 8 vesssls, with aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that the business may be extended without delay, especially the London and American branches. • . . ■ The servic s of Mr C. B. Stone, as managing director, and the itaff at present under his cobtrol, who are experienced in this, line of business, have been secured to take office under the new Company. It is further proposed that Ihe working expenses should be conducted on strictly economical principles, the expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on tbe actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is set down at £150, 000, but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital wi:l not be called up unt 1 vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at easonable prices, until which time it is proposed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present flset. It is proposed to' invite all Auckland busi-ness-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and stroDg enough to compete most successfully with any outs de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then not fail to be a credit to our port, and ft moat lucrative investment to Share-holders. v The promoters having every confidence in the sueceas of the undertaking, now appeal to the public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Shares. • . These figures serve to shew that with a larger fleet, extended business, and more capital, substantial dividends may confidently be anticipated. ■ 1400 (\BKAXSBTAL Printing, in ooion, gold U orbronie in • rtf <bith«rtomnobtam> able on tht Tuu>« at th« Imnafojt Ofiet
