The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. FRIDAY, MAY 4, 1883.

Sanitabt matters, as a rule, appear to be forgotten amongst us. We have a large population, and in certain portions of the Borough people are massed together in a sufficiently close manner to justify a thought being conferred on their health. We are gratified that the efforts mode by us in eradicating the pig nuisanoe have been fruitive, and, with a desire to benefit the burgesses, we would point out another source of eril to the authorities. No measures have apparently been taken for the disposal of nightsoil within the limits of the Borough. This is a very grievous error, and one likely to cause very serious consequences. The exigencies of the case—important as they are—do not demand that we should go into details to show the danger likely to arise from the fact that no steps are taken to dispose of tlm abominable nuisance. The burgesses have, in the majority of cases, very slight means of draining premises, owing to the flatness of the locality. It is extremely difficult to " run off" storm water and ordinary drainage, and having that in view their Borough Council should.take steps to provide for the removal of the obnoxious matter we refer to. There are few towns in the colony in which some means are not profided for the disposal of such febrile matter as we speak of. We desire,to be brief. A depot could be easily selected, and health would be preserved by removing a prolific source of disease amongst us. If things remain as th°y are in this matter a very serieus result will follow.
