NEW PLYMOUTH.

[Pee Peess Association.]

This day. The Supreme Court was opened to-day by Mr Justice Gillies. In his charge to the Grand Jury, his honor said the cases were somewhat numerous, but not more than was to be expected in a growing population, most of them came from the but districts, on the outposts of civilization, where wild and lawless characters congregated; at the same time the cases were not of a heinous character, none of a high class being in the calendar. There are 10 charges against 8 persons, three of whom are Maories. The most serious charge is one of arson. There was a prisoner on bail committed on a charge of forgery in a bank passbook. As the Judge was given to understand that there was a doubt as to his surrendering to his bail, he would order him to be called, before the bill was sent to the Grand Jury, so that it might not be necessary to deal with the case. , LAteb. At the Supreme Court, Hari Ngaero, alias Te Poti, was charged with stealing a horse from Cornwall, at Stratford. He was found " Not guilty," and discharged.
