This day. The Governor goes to the Waikato on Wednesday. Mr Whitaker went to Wellington today. Mr Euddenklau, Mayor of Christ* church is at preseot on a visit to this city. The Noble Working Man, The despatch of the mail steamer was delayed six or seven hours on Tuesday through the difficulty of getting labourers to work the vessel. Two of the Union Company's boats came in on that morning and as the work at them was on cargo, they naturally enough had the preference. There were, however, plenty of men " knocking around ; " but they would not take the work pressed on them. Many were offered 2s an hour, and even 2s 6d, but they preferred to stand idle.
