The County Roads.
The letter received from the Government; by the County Council is of a very satisr. factory nature, and is likely to .remedy-, many of the evils suffered by the County in the way of bad roads.' Considerable, credit is due to the County Chairman for; his assiduity in shewing Mr Gordon the-, TMpcctor around, and persistently urging, the necessity ot expenditure being made ' on the'Goldsfields roads in our district s—r; Wellington, March 31. _ ; The Chairman Thames County Council* Thames. In further reply to your - letter of. the 13th December last, T am now directed tQ inform you that subsidies will be granted in tfi'e proportion of two pounds to one pound expanded-by the Council upon the following works:—Karaka Creek track to Lucky Hit claim ; estimated cost, £330.; Track from Kau^erauga to Otunui and extension up Mangakeri Creek; estimated cost, £710. Improfing tracks to uppers mines in the Waiotabi; modified estimate cost, £320. Track to open up new Goldfield in Earangahake district; subsidy of two third of £360 already has been allowed for this,; and a farther subsidy of two thirds of £290 will now be allowed, making the amended estimate of cost £650. Track from Katikati Boad to Waitekauri battery and mines; modified estimates of sum required, £250. Total estimates for worksirWu referred to, £2,230, and total subsidy of two thirds allowed,. £1,48613*. 4d. (including subsidy already- allowed towards Karangahake track).
