THE PIG NUISANCE.

r-v (To the Editor of the Brening Star.] ' Bih,—l see that the Borough Council hare at last awakened to the fact that keeping pigs within the Borough boundaries is a nuisance, is detrimental to health, and mnst be pnt a stop to. So far so good; but why stop with the Borongh ? Some parts of the County (notably portions of Block 27) are every bit as thickly populated as the Borongh, and in point of fact would be portions,of the Borough if that " scientific frontier" in Rolleston street were abolished, and in these portions the nuisance is felt every bit as bad as in Grabamstown. Ido not for a moment expect the County Council to prohibit the keeping of pigs in all parts of the County, but in the thickly populated portions something certainly should be done to that end. Hoping that you will spur on the County, as you did the Borough, Council to take action in the matter,—l am, &c, A Bolleston Street Resident.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sir,—l understand that the amounts paid by the General Government towards the maintenance of hospitals are not deducted from subsidies granted to local bodies. Such being the case, I should be glad to know by what right the County and" Borough Councils claim to interfere in the control of the hospital, and elect three councillors annually to represent _. their interests (?) in the Committee of management.—l am, &c, SUBSCBIBBB.
