A letter was received from Mr. C.. B. Edwards,'giving the Council notice of his intention to fence between his land and Borough endowment at Waitoa, and requiring the Council to defray half the

cost of the same* The Deep Level Tribute Co. asked' a remittance of drainage contributions. The application of J. Lyes to erect a bridge over the water table ia Sealey street was granted, subject to the approval of the Foreman of Works. Mr J. S. Hart wrote complaining of the nuisance caused by a neighbour within 50 feet of his house keeping pigs, and stated "that his'wife, and familj- were frequently ill on account of it. It was resolved— " That a by-law be passed by the Council prohibiting or regulating..the keeping of swine within the limits of the Borough." The Works Committee recommended that the footway and water table in Queen street, between Pahau and Cochrane streets, be laid down ; that the Willoughby street footpaths be gravelled; that the Foreman of Works ascertain the cost of completing the ■ Waiotahi aqueduct, and that the amount due on the contract less such cost be handed to the contractor, Mr McDerrnott, on his giving the Council a full discharge of all liability in connection with his contract.—With regard to Mr Ehrenfried's claim for damage to his property on account of the aqueduct, it was recommended, without admitting any HabiHty—That the Council,-from and after the present date, take over Mr Ehrenfried's lease of the 7 block of land shown in his letter, and pay the yearly rent of £29 15s as it becomes due, ufltil the expiration of the lease; the 1 Council giving Mr Ehrenfried any right they may have so to do to remove off, such ground any buildings at present thereon, provided such, removal is effected within one month, Mr Ehrenfried accepting the above as satisfaction in full for any claim he may consider he possesses against the Council in this matter. The Committee recommended that all private drains shall be glazed socket-pipes, and all service water and gas pipes be laid ins'de 3 inch drain pipes. The applications for a crossing at Queen and Mary, streets, by Mr Macky, and for a drain in tipper Pollen street were recommended to be granted. The charge for the use of the Pollen street tramway could not be reduced. On' the condition that the Kopu Railway contractors raise the road ballast, and lay a line of tramway from the Beach road along she Tararu road to the Mbanatatari tip, they should be allowed the use of it free of charge for the purpose of ballasting the length of railway in their contract, the work to be done and maintained to the satisfaction of the foreman of works. The report was adopted.—The Water Supply Committee reported that the price charged Mr McCau!, £10 as his proportion of the cose of the 4;inch main that carries water to supply the water-engine of the Thames Newspaper Company, and of Mr McCaul's manufacturing .works, was agreed to by him in writing previous to the workv being commenced, and that all that was agreed to be done has been fully carried out by the Council; the Committee, therefore could recommend no reduction in \the charge Jbeing made. Uuder the circumstances (hat have necessitated Mr Melhose's laying new service pipes to his premises, Cochrane street, the Committee recommend that 10s instead of 20s. be charged him for breaking the asphalt to receive the service pipe. The Committee find, on reference to the Rate Book, that Mennie arid Dey's factory has been rated as a store only, and an additional charge of £1 only been added for domestic or ordinary water fate ; the other charges against that firm are for the purposes, of trade, supply to steam boiler, &c, and do not in any tray affect the rate for domestic purposes; the Committee, therefore, cannot recommend any'further reduction than the Rate Book shows to have been made. The Committ.ee recommend that the Turncock be directed that all se: - vice pipes laid across footpaths be encased in 3 inch pipe to ba renewed at any future time, so that the footpath would notagain have to be broken.
