[Received April 19th, 1.20 p.m.] Melboubne, This day, The Victorian Government has invited the New South Wales and South Australian Governments to join in instructiong Agents-General in London to communicate with the Imperial authorities in support of the annexation of New Guinea. The Hon, James Service has already telegraphed to Mr E. Murray Smith, the Victorian representative in London, requesting him to favor annexation. The Victorian wheat statistics of North counties'jhas been published ; they shew that the last season's yield was 5,820,000 bushels, producing an average of 8*55 bushels to the acre against 6,300,000 bushels, and an average of 946 bushels to the acre for last year. The Australasian is sending an agricultural reporter on a lengthened tour throughout the United States and Adelaide. The official statistics of the South : Australian wheat crop for the past season shew that the average has only been 4*16 bushels per acre. - " Melbourne, Yesterday. The Union Insurance Company of New Zealand has taken orer the current risks of the Victorian agencies of the Standard ■ Fire Insurance Company of London, and the Fire Association of London. Sydney, Yesterday. In the Legislative Assembly this evening the Postmaster-General tabled a resolution regarding the San Francisco Mail Service. The motion provides for an extension of the present service for the period of two years, the subsidy being fixed at £50,000, of which £18,750 is to be contributed by New South Wales, on the understanding that the contract time shall be shortened by 24 hours on the first year, and 48 hours for the second year; the company to be relieved of the obligation of keeping a fourth vessel in the service.
