On Saturday about 100 settlers met to consider the question of starting a butter and cheese factory. A committee was appointed to secure further information. On the same evening, at Normanby, a meeting was held to consider the advisableness of starting hop culture. A num« ber of settlers resolved to go into the venture, and agreed to secure the services of a practical man to five things a start. Andrew Youngi farmer, .of Kaupokonui, has been arrested on a charge of perjury. The offence is alleged to hare been committed during the hearing of an assault charge on Wednesday last. Bail was allowed. A meeting of Young's creditors was held on Saturday. Liabilities, £3401 17s lOd ; assets, £1806 12s. The estate is to be assigned to Mr Tenant, of the Bank of New South Wales.
