OUR MINES.

NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL. The manager to-day commenced to break down the portion of the new reef which was stripped in the drive west of the crosscut at No. 4 level, but up to this afternoon was not able to get the whole of it down, The reef is three feet wide in the face. Gold was seen freely, and a few small stones bagged. None of the reef has been broken at No. 5 level since my \isit yesterday. . ALBQENIA. A crushing of 9 loads of general dirt from Dixon's reef, at the po.int where some specimens were recently obtained, has been put through the company's mill t lor the payable yield of 18ozs 15dwts melted gold. KURANUI HILL. Work at the 80ft. level of the Albion shaft is still in full swing on the Wheel of Fortune and Cook's leaders. Driving on the former body has been stopped for the present, and the men removed to the stopes. These are in progress on both sides of the slide on which Richards' winze was sunk. On the seaward side the quartz is about 2| feet wide, and looks favorable for gold. On the opposite Bide it is hardly so large, but is a good, solid body of quartz. Gold is seen in it occasionally, and a few nice picked stone were bagged two or three days back. Oa Cook's leader, which averages a foot in width, driving eastward and stoping is going on. The quartz does not show much gold, but is of a very pror mising nature. A considerable amount

of dirt is now on band, so crushing will be started shortly. WAIOTAHI. Cleaning up for the month of March took place yesterday for the result of 194 ozs 9dwts gold, which was reduced to 191oz8 on being melted. For this 120 tons of quartz have been treated from all parts of the mine, though the principal portion came from the No. 4 reef and branch leaders. Blocks on Nos. 2* and 5 reefs are being opened up west of the crosscut, and stoping will shortly be started in them. ANGLO-MAORI (OTUNUI.) The proprietors of this claim (Messrs Tookey and Mills) brought down a small lot of 6 bags of quartz, weighing barely a ton, obtained from a new reef a foot wide cut in the low level, on Tuesday, and i had it treated at the Alburnia battery. The amalgam was retorted this morning, the weight of gold being 4ozs. lldwts. This return is very satisfactory, and taken with the good yield from the New Eureka stone crushed some time ago, should prove an incentive to holders of interests in that field to continue prospecting. .
