To-day, after mass, Bishop Morati was presented by Mr P. W. . Petrie, a native of Wellington, with an address from the Catholics of Wellington, promising him support iv his efforts in tbe cause of edu cation. He replied by urging his flock to continue their efforts to secure justice,
and assuring them that constant agitation would not fail in achieving the desired results.
This day. y The Criminal Sittings opened to-day. In his charge, the Judge said that the cases for the Grand Jury's consideration were very few, and of an exceedingly simple character: they called for uo special comment. Annie Jarvis pleaded guilty to concealment of birth, and was sentenced to two months', without hard labor. William Pattey and Thomas Wright, for house breaking, received four months'.
A dwelling house and store belonging to Gordon Matheson, at Mornington, was burned down on Sunday morning. It was insured for £300 in tho Australian Allaince, £300 in the North British, and £100 in the Standard. Matheson estimates hn loss at £200 above that amount.
