. Monday. The grand sham,fight and review took placo on the racecourse to-day in glorious weather, 2500 people being present. There were 500 men under arms. In the sham fight the attacking parly wa3 commanded by Captain Watt, of the Wanganui rifles ; the defence was commanded by Major Pitt, of Nelson. The cavalry, infantry, and artillery were engaged in various movements, which were success, fully executed. Numerous accidents and a case of sunstroke took place, but none of them serious. Major Stapp, the officer commanding the district, issued an order greatly complimenting the officers and men for their conduct during the Easter encampment, which closes to-night, when the Nelson contingent leaves .by the steamer. This has been the greatest' and most successful Volunteer gathering erer held on this coast.
