OUR MINES.
DEEP LEV PL CROSS. f Another haul of good stone, in,_all 6Olbs weight, was bagged yesterday - evening. The greater portion came from the flat < leader in the stopes between No. 2 reef and the hangingwall leader, and the remainder from the crossreef. The south crosscut Ht the 640 ft. level is now in a distance of 1020 feet from the shaft, an.d the contractors hare yet about 14 feet to drive to complete the 100 ft. tend* red for. The country continues of the same class.' NEW PRINCE IMPEBIAL. The ground iv the crosscut at No. 5 level showed an improvement last night, and this morning a further change for the better is noticeable. The manager thinks he is now through the worst of'the Ward bar the shaft was sunk in. 1* NEW COLUMBIA. A late report from the manager aayi :— During the first week of the past^fort* night two men, and the latter week'four men, including myself; have been employed in driving the eastern drive. I mentioned in my last that the reef had narrowed down to two feet in width. It has been rather a remarkable feature that for the last hundred^ feet driven not a drop of water was visible, indicating that a slide was at ho great distance off. This . came across the drive during the .past week, completely cutting out the Veef. This was cut through yesterday morning, when a considerable quantity of water came in. This, I believe, will drain the Nil Desperandum shaft and surrounding country. The reef appears to be making strong on the eastern side Tof the slide, with a hard white sandstone formation. I hope to be able to report favorably on it in my next. * THAMES WINDING ASSOCIATION. The manager reports:—The whole' of ; the machinery is now on the ground, and the contractors will soon have it in position. They have now two bricklayers at work, and win have the boiler built in by the end of the week. The contractors for the hoppers have, the timber on the ground, and made a start this morning. I have the guides right up to stays and connected with those in shaft, and.'when cages are on can overhaul the 'bottom ones, which cannot be done so well or quickly as in the cage. I have the lauuders all ready for bailing; GOLD RETURNS. Reuben Paeb.-—Jury <md party, tributers, have put a parcel of 15 loads of general stuff through the Alburnia mill for the yield of 26ozs 9dwts melted gold.
