HOKITIKA.

Yesterday. A man Darned George Collier, one of Murray's survey party, at Upper Kokatahi, was drowned yesterday through the upsetting of a boat in which were fur men, three besides Collier. The three men were found standing on the rock in the centre of. Kokatahi river, with the water boiling (?) round them. They were rescued. Collier's body is not yet found. Much disgust is felt here at the action of the Westland Education Board in permitting a certain committee to withdraw its votes, given for the vacancies on the Board, and substitute others. This was effected in order to prevent a Southern member being returned. Litigation is threatened.
