OUR MINES.
DEEP LEVFL CROSS.
Tbe manager yesterday bagged 601bs of good picked stone; the greater portion were obtained from the whole length of the stopes above'the Imperial No. 4 level, but some also came to hand from the drive on the hangingwall leader. A few pounds of stone were also got in breaking down the reef today. STAR OF TE PAPA. This claim, which has been worked successfully for several years by Messrs Adams, was formed into a company a few days ago. The only work at present in progress, however, is the cleaning out of an old level in the Pride of Karaka claim, which adjoins the Te Papa on its western boundary. As soon as this work and the j renovation of some other tunnels is completed a survey will be made, to fiud out the best plan of operations. SEYMOUR. Good progress is being made considering the bad weather we have been having recently. The boiler is partly built in, and the engine-house almost completed. Men are employed finishing the poppet legs and braoe, and it is expected that a start will be made the week after next to wind out the water. KARAKA CREEK. ; A considerable amount of prospecting is in progress in this creek at present, espe« cially in the neighborhood of the old Little Lizzie claim. Some very rich gold was discovered in this locality a few weeks back by a claimholder, and his piece of ground is now pegged in on all sides. The prospecting: drive was put in on a large flinty for considerably over a hundred feet, the whole of the work being done by one man. So far only two of the Little Lizzie leaders have been intersected, and there are several others on ahead. Both leaders made good gold where struck by the flinty^ and one parcel of 61bs of stone; from a leader about 1? inches in width, yielded the splendid return of 60ozs of gold, or at the rate of lOojw to the lb. This rich patch was taken from just below the floor. The leaders lie very flat, and are in the drive' for a length of about 2Dft, for the whole of which distance they yielded specimens, and as they are intact both above and below at this point, the proprietor is likely to be handsomely rewarded for his perse* veranoe. The country is a compact, bluish-white sandstone, slightly mottled, and interlaced with mineral veins. In one of the other claimß situated to the north-aest of the last mentioned'one, dririDg is in progress on the same flinty, at a lower level, and in anothera crosscut is being driven at the road level to cut the Little Lizzie leaders to the eastward of where the patch was found. Several other parties are also working higher up tbe creek. In the Adelaide claim the reef in the itopes average* 2ft in width, though sometimes sft from wall to wall. A little pioked itone is occasionally obtained.
Crushing is proceeding at Ball's mill, and is shaping for a good payable yield. GOLD BETUBNS. Albubni 4.—McDonald and party have treated a parcel of quartz at the com" pany's mill for the return of lozs 13dwts gold. _________——
