Nomination 2 sots, acceptance 7 soys, and 5 soys on the night of gpnefal entries; distance, 2f- miles. — Horsfall's King Quail, aged, Bst (Butler), 1; A. J. Armourer, Sincerity, Hailstorm, and Orphan also ran; St. Glair, Dan, and Constellation were scratched. For this, the great event of the meeting, there was a moderate field, and an almost entire absence of the customary excitement. Mr Higgie got the horses away to a good start, Hailstorm taking the lead for a very brief distance, after which he fell into the ruck, and then hopelessly towards the rear; and, hot favorite though he was, he was never in the race ; Buzzard, who was very well ridden, took the lead on entering the | straight for the first time, Armourer and Fame competing for second position. In this order the horses ran until nearly the second mile, when King Quail, who had evidently been biding his time, cut down the other horses in the ruck, passed Armourer and Fame, and began to gain on Buzzard, who, at this, period of the contest, looked like wintiitig. Within a third of a mile of the finish, King Quail passed Buzzard, and entering the straight in the lead, with Buzzard and Fame following, the latter horse putting out its speed. Armourer dropped back, andLeooala was seen pushing rapidly ahead. King Quail, however, increased his lead, and won by two lengths.
