. The Government have granted Mount Cook Road Board £400 towards opening up the Alpine country at the foot and around Mount Cook by roads, on condition that the Board undertake the construction of the work, which they have agreed to do. The Geraldine County Council are taking steps to irrigate South Canterbury plains, and a bill will be introduced into the coming Parliament to assist them in doing so.
