Dunedin Race Meeting.
j (Pee Pkess Association.) Dunbdin, This day. The weather is frightful; it is blowing half a gale, with occasional showers of blinding rain. There were not' 700 on the course when the proceedings opened with the Steeplechase, for which Canard was scratched. The betting was 2to 1 against Clarence or Carrig»heen, the latter being much fa»ored on account of the heaViness of the ground and his light weight. Wby-Not baulked at the third mile, and was not persevere 1 with; Clarence kept the grey well in view til,l going for the third mile, when at the same hurdle Clarence dwelt rather long, enabling the grey, who was jumping beautifully, to get a clear lead of fully 200 yards; Lunn then sat down to ride his horse, and made up the lost ground wonderfully, but could never get on even terms with Carrigheen, who won by- a short head. It was a splendid race throughout, and undoubtedly the best steeplechase seen on the course! Time, 7mins 57socs. Tho dividend on the lotalisdtor was about £2 10s. Eobbuky Handicap.
