WELLINGTON.
This day.
I have very good authority for stating (hat Parliamentary duties will not commence before the beginning of June.
Tbe Influential citizens of Wellington have not treated the Japanese officers as they should have done, although the latter have exerted themselves during their stay in port to entertain the public with dig* plays of fireworks, " At Homes," soirees, &c. lam afraid that if it had not been for the courteous treatment received at the hands of the -Mayor they would have taken away a very poor opinion of Colonial hospitality. Mr Fisher exerted himself to make their stay a pleasant one, and has spent a good deal of money in entertaining them. 1
Correspondence has been going on for some time past in the Wanganui papers over the large profits made by some officials in the Government Insurance Department, and as a result Mr Luckie, the Commissioner, has issued an order to subordinates that no information about the business of the office is to be divulged to outsiders.
