The polling for the general elections closes at fire o'clock this afternoon ; tbere are many spirited contests expected, although not much excitement has been manifosiod, public attention having hitherto boju largely occupied "by ciicket maishes. The strike of tailoresses has now virtually ended. The majority of them resume work to-day, and the remainder are not exjecled to hold out much longer. It is exp;c£ed that a final Intevnational Cricket Match between the Hon. Ivo Bligh's team avd an Australian eleven will t ke place at Melbo»rne. [Received February 22, 1.30 a.m.] Sydney, This day. The chief officer of the Eastern and Australian Company's ship Menmuir has been found to be suffering from small pox and the vtssei has.been quarantinod. Melboubne, This day. The deep interest which has been taken in the late international cricket match has completely eclipsed that in the impending general elections. Sydney, Wednesday. International Cricket Match. The international cricket match, Australia versus England, was resumed here to-day. The Australians, requiring to make 199 runs to win the match, commenced their second inniags and n?ade the required number .with 4 wickets to spare. 8.-iinerman aid Ifii'dock to^k the wickets, aad at luncbfonadjouiament. both were not out, the former having s cured 22, and the latter 13. Murdoch, j though playing with great care, was caught for 17 ; Bannerman. hitting with unusual freedom, put together 63 before he was disposed of. Banner follow*-_l, and, was caught for 3, and Horan, caught and. bowled, nil Giiffen, by a series of splendid.drives, scored 32, out was ultimately stumped; Erans then went in, but was caught before he had time to score. Blackham, who followed, after a splendid inniags, carried his bat oat for j 58, and Midwinter for 8. The weather was fine and the attendance large. Great interest has been taken in the match. The following are the scores :-— Bannerman, c 63; Murdoch, c 17; Bonner, c 3 ; Horan, c and b0; Griffen, slumped 32 ; Evans, c 0 ; Blackham, not out 58; Midwinter, not out 8 ; Extras, 18. Total for six wickets, 199.
The following is the bowling analysis in the second innings of the Englishman yesterday : Spofforth, 2 wickers for 57 runs; Boyle, 2 for 35 ; Palmer, 2 for 59 ; Midwinter, 2 for 21 ; Horan, 2 for 15.
