COUNTY COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the above, wan held this forenoon in the Chambers, Mary street. Present—Cra BrodM'T (ill the. Chair), Porter, Bagnall, Thorbarn, Fraaer, Coutts, Deeble, Murdoch, and Bull. ; *"
The Council went into CoffimiUo6rof the whole for the purpose of considering byelaw for regulating the County water race, and conditions for leasing the same for,a term of years if necetsafy. ff £P lobg and animated discussion- ensued, the opinion of the * majority of the Council being strongly against the leasing of so valuable an endowment, and in ofder to afford the members extended opportunities for consideration'it was* roofed by Cr Porter, and seconded by Cr>Bull,~^T&at Cr Murdoch's name Tje'adcled to the Committee appointed to ftriWffgJSpfbtf a settlement of the bank overdraft; fand that the said committee be further empowered to proceed to Auckland arid interview the Bank authorities for the purpose^if pos^ sible, of arranging terms of liquidation, and that a special meetijpg , be. con* voned on ;the 27th in'st. to^'rV ceive the .Committee's, report and determine whether it is advisable, or not, to lease the water-race."—This was carried.—The Committee will also take the opportunity ' of interviewing the hon. the Minister of Mines on goldfieldg' J roads rd other public works. The following resolution was also sanctioned .by the Council—That tbe Moanatairi Company's request for 150 feet of 20-inch mains be granted for the purpose of making the necessary connection with their battery, the cost'of laying the mains and making the connection to be borne by the company, the) mains, after being laid, to continue,the property of the Council.-. ..-•-■ ? : ." ;i v- ,j
