■ Great animosity is expressed 1 in Ireland against Mr Harcourt, Secretary of State, in consequence of his refusing to reprieve some prisoners recently convicted of being concerned in the murderous outrages in that country. In consequence of threats indulged in, it has been deemed desirable to take special measures for his protection from the .vengeance of the Fenian organisations. Constables have therefore been
told off ; for the special duty of guarding him against attack.

It is understood, that Parnell will shortly visit America in his capacity as President of the Irish National League. He is to be present at a. grand convention of the American branch leagues to be held in March. ;
It is understood'that' two prominent members of the Irish Nationalist party, viz., Dillon and Grill, who respectively represent the counties of Tipperary and Westmeath, will resign their seats in the House of Commons shortly. '
There is considerable agitation in the south of, France caused by the, recent aggressive attitude of the legislative party in pushing the claims of Count Chambord.
The Government are taking precautions to prevent disturbances between the partisans of Count Chambord and the Republican party, which are looked on as very likely to occur. : The number of informers who volunteer to give evidence against their Fenian associates increases daily. The convict Devine has recently made important disclosures.
Mr Trevelyan, Chief Secretary for Ireland, has gone on a visit to England. He will be closely guarded by a body of special constabulary during his stay. It is not believed that De Father's Government can be of long duratioD. It is generally anticipated that M. Jules Ferry will replace the present Premier, and that a more stringent policy will then be pursued with respect to the expulsion from France of members of the ex* reigning houses. It is stated that the German Ambassador in Paris has remonstrated on behalf of his Government on the appointment of Thebaudin "Co the post of Minister for War in the new French Cabinet.
The Porte is endeavoring to restore Turkish supremacy in Egypt. The natives of the latter country are exceedingly insulting in their demeanor towards English soldiers, who they no longer regard with the same awe as hitherto. Tb.B false prophet of the Soudan is purr suing a victorious career in that province, having on several occasions defeated Egyption troops sent against him.

The balance of ttfe fund initiated by the Duchess of Marlboro' some years ago for the relief of the distress in Ireland, is to be expended in promoting emigration from that country. , ; Negotiations are in progress between the English and Mexican Governments for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
