The Sorrento's cargo of frozen meat, consisting of 5848 carcases mutton, arrived in splendid condition.

_ A deputation of the Free Church of Scotland waited upon Earl Derby, the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in reference to the new Hebrides and Polynesian labor question. In reply to various speakers, Earl-Derby repudiated the idea that England intended to annex New Hebrides, and expressed the hope that an agreement would be come to with France by which the independence of the natives of the group would be duly respected. He further promised to en. deayor to regulate the labor traffic in Polynesia, and, if. necessary, to stop it altogether.
