A Big Jump.
A correspondent writes to the Madras Mail:—"l take the followiuß from the last number received of the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, viz , of Nofemb r 11: 'A-few years ago k young Australian' horse ran, away- in- one of, the . Madras steeplechases, and cleared the lane, which was 24 feet wide, and had a 3 foot wail on the taking off side and another 6 inches higher on the" landing side.'- That wa« something* like'a jump,, but can ,any of your sporting readers recall anything concerniDg it? I hare been in Madras a 'few years, and nevef* heard this, 'corker' Nor can I call to mind any lane in or about our steeplechase coarse answering at all to the description given above." " No. Corker"; writes :•—" Kegarding an Australian horse jumping 24 feet at the Madras Kaces, I saw a white or light grey horse, which I believe belonged to the Hon. B. Davidson, OS., jump the double clear. The walls'must have been preltynearlyi;24 feet apart. As* far as I remember, the rider: was thrown at the next jump. This was in the month of December/65 :or January '66
