The English Government and tbe Hamilton Manuscript.
It is said that the authorities at Berlin are not disinclined, under certain conditions, to hand over to the ..English Government those documents in the lately acqnired Hamilton collection of manuscripts referring-to the history of Scotland. The price paid for these antiquarian treasures is said to bo one and a half- mil lions of marks. The NorveUremya has a long article, warmly endorsing the regrets expressed by the itnss at the lo>s of the Hamilton manuscripts, and proposing that states should prevent vandalism of this kind by legislati*p measures, present ing such collections fr.mi being disposed of out of the country- A law of this nature, says this journal, already exists in Italy, and judicious d cisiuns in the same direction are frequently pronounced in France in rpgard to family paper* which include official documents and other memoranda of value to the nation. From Russia also it adds, a mass of things of greatest artistic worth, the remains of former Bussian grandeur are yearly taken abroad, without any check, even of an export duty worth speaking of.—-Our Paris Letter.
