The total number of libraries which have applied for a subsidy is 355, and their incomes from various sources amount to £15,638.
The Government hare received a tele gram from Mr Bryce stating that the Datives at Kawbia were very cordial when he visited that place. The message goes on to say that no difficulty is anticipated as regards the survey, sale, or occupation of tbe land.
..Up" to last night £90,000 bad been, received on account of the Property Tax, without including returns from outside post offices. These amount to something like £20,000, so that with tbe sum already to hand, the total is nearly £110,000. It is anticipated that the proceeds of the tax for the current year will be fully equal to Treasurers estimate of £150,000.
Tbe New Zealand Times this morning contains an article on the EhreniriedGudgeon case, iv the course of which Judfce Gillies' action throughout the trial is severely censured.
