Melbottene, This day. ]!n the first innings of the Australians on Saturday, Murdoch carried out his bat for 17, not 70 as previously, telegraphed. The extras give 12 runs, and the total was 114 as wired.

The ! former had contributed 18 when he was bowled, and Massie joined Murdoch; j these batsmen got well set and runs came fast. Massie was, however, bowled when he had put together a well played 42. ! None of the other players made any stand against the bowling of the Englishmen, Garrett being the only one to reach double ' figures. Murdoch, however, remained at the wickets throughout the innings, j and carried out his bat for a, splendidly played 70, The innings closed for a total of 154.
