A settler named Archibald Douglas alleges that ho has discovered diamonds near Auckland. He is in possession of some thirty stones possessing all the out* ward characteristics of diamonds, and which withstand the sulphuric acid test. Eobert Taylor's dwelling at Papakura was .burned down on Friday. The house and furniture were insured ia the New Zealand Office for £250. Yesterday. Mr J. L. Smith, the landlord of the Exchange Hotel, lias stabbed himself in j
the throat with a penknife. The injuries are not very serious. A bushman, named Williamson, has been brought up from Mercury Bay, having cut his throat badly The wind pipe is severed, and it is doubtful if he will recover.
