The Big Pump and Drainage Contributions.

(fsom oub own coebespondent.)

Auckland, This day.

The directors of the Deep Level-Cross Company issued the following circular through the legal manager :—" On the 21st November last the directors of the j Deep Level Co. addressed a circular to I the Companies interested in the unwatering of the mines benefitted by the pumps, informing them that unless satisfactory arrangements were come to in regard to contributions from the companies pumping, the operations would cease on the 21st of February, 1883. As no satisfactory communications hare been received on the subject, and as the date when these -operations cease is not far distant, I am instructed by the directors of tbe.Deep Level-Cross G.M.Co. to submit for your approval without prejudice, proposals which, if acceded to, will prevent the disastrous results likely to ensue from a stoppage of the pumps. The Deep Level Cross Company agrees to pay £40 per month. They propose that the Companies interested in the pumping oporations should each be assessed at the rate of £16 per month, and that the balance of the expenditure necessary for carrying on pumping operations should be borne equally by the vaVious companies in proportion to the return of gold obsained from each; such contributions to be reckoned on the monthly returns of gold obtained. The Deep Level Co. have hitherto, independent of payments received from contributing companies, expended the sum of £4,766 5s 3d on pumping operations, but they are prepared to make the following concessions :—l. That no charge shall be made in respect of past expenditure. 2. That they will undertake to keep the plant in good working order, and make no charge for interest on the cost of plant. It must however be clearly understood that the Directors of the, Deep Level Cross Company undertake no responsibility in the case of accidents.
