The greater portion of the place has been shattered to pieces, and twelve lives were lost. Pabis, January 19. The Buonapaitist ManifestoIn the Chamber of Deputies to-day, M. Faillures, Minister of the Interior, introduced a bill to provide measures to prevent the issue of manifestoes by Buonapartisfc pretenders. The measure provides for the punishment of offenders by imprisonment instead of by expulsion' from France. ■ The Socialists. Prince Krapotkine, one of the leaders of the Socialist movements, has been sentenced to. five years penal servitude. Various terms of imprisonment have been passed upon other Socialist prisoners. . A Legitimist Plot. A report is curent that a widely spread legitimist plot is now in existence in France under the leadership of Charlotte. Beblin, January 18. The Imperial Bank of Germany has re duced its rate of discount to 4 per cent. London, January 19. A strike of extraordinary magnitude has occurred among the employes on the Caledonian Eailway Company's line. Prince Jerome Bonaparte's manifesto denounced the impotence and incapacity of the present Government of France, as shown in the decadence of the army, trade, and public finance of the country, coupled with the increased debt. He eulogised the plebiscite. The manifesto is generally considered to be ill-timed, and apparently intended to forestall any movement on the part of the Comte de Chambord, and the Legitimist party. Prince Jerome's following has apparently been diminished. M. Granier de Cassaguae disclaims any kuowledge of the mani;

festo issued by-Prince Jerome, and ridi cules the action taken by him.

Mr J.'. Kynaston Cross, member for Bolton, succeeds Viscount Enfieldas Parliamentary tinder-Secretary for India. has arrived at his home, and met with an enthusiastic reception.
