At the Supreme Court to-day the arson case against G-eo. Fraser, contractor for the Catlin's Biter Bailway, was taken. He was charged with burning down the store on the works, which the Public • Works Department had given him notice he must give up. After a lengthy hear" ing the jury brought in a verdict of not guilty, adding that the Insurance Companies were greatly to blame for taking risks without inspecting premises. The New Zealand Pottery Company at Milton have resolved to wind up. There has been a loss of £3.642 16s Bd. The shareholders of the company at the meeting regretted much the absolute necessity of winding up, and the hope was expressed that a new company might be started, especially as all early difficulties have been surmounted and a number of skilled workmen have been brought to the country. The Presbyterian Synod spent six hours last night over the deceased wife's sister question. They eventually decided to adopt" the decision of the Presbyteries, namely, to let the question stand exactly as it is. This day At the Presbyterian Synod, the principal speeches in favor of the union were delivered by the Eevs. Cairn and Knuglas. Bey. Bannerman moved an amendment attempting to shelve the question, was negatived by 41 to 14. Mr Morrice9' motion affirming, the union and re-appoint-ing the committee to carry on negotiations, was carried by 45 to 41. The result was received with prolonged cheering.
