OUR MINES.
UtEW PEINCE IMPERIAL.
The shaft has been sunk 63 feet, bat as the country, bus become tighter, progress -will be slowed.:, It will probably, be"three weeks before -the contract is finished. The winio is down fully 20 feet, and though the lead is smaller than when work jwjas started it carries an. excellent class of jmiperal, and shows gold when broken, -ThVftoor across^ the drive forces down a splendid .cXirrentfof air. The crosscut for the Mariner's reef is in about 90ft, and the ground, in* the face has become harder the last d*y or two. Another IOFt of drif ing will see the reef in hand if it has kept ihe estimated underlie. The -new reef has been broken down in the south- , west drive on- it, and showed colors of gold. Work here hap been suspended for 1 a day or two, the men being engaged in the stopes, but will be started again shortly.. The stopes we,st of the shaft look well all through,/ gold being. seen I freely at each breaking in the workings west of the break. Two cw-t. of specimens and picked stone were .bagged from , here last week, and the precious metal | was left showing in several places, East* i ward of the shaft the night shift are | driving on the f'ootwall leader, but the air \is rather light to work in the daytime. I One stope is being cairied back towards j the shaft on the junction of the footwall ! and main reefs. Fully three feet of I quartz of a likely nature is in hand 1 here, in which good strong colors lof gold are seen. Owing to the deficiency , in the supply of water, the Alburnia mill has to stop work, and Mr Clark will start at the Kurunui Hill battery to-morrow morrfing if a supply of water for the tables and boiler can be obtained. 30 head of stamps will be employed, but they will not work full time. *

Pumping is proceeding at a good speed,: and this afternoon there was only 7 feet of water on tbeflatshaet at the 640 fept level, which will pr.obabiy be dry by Friday. In the workings from the Prince Imperial shaft the large reef continues to look well, ldlbs of good stone were bagged last night from the leading stope near the break, and gold was also left showing.! In tho other stopes the reef looks well. The'winze is down about 35 feet, and tho country in the bottom is somewhat disturbed. .. KUBANUI HILL. I A late report from the manager says:— ■ Oddfellows', Shotover lavel: Since last rreport nothing fretfh to report from this section. In breaking down the lead gold is seen at time* and the lead keeps about the same size. Tunnel level: The lead in Kelly's crosscut remains unchanged". A 3mall trial having been obtained from the lead in footwall of No. 1, and no appearof a^more favorable change having occurred, the hands have been transferred, to, Oddfellows stopes, as there is now sufficient room for them. Poverty : The winze is making the usual fair progresi., : The drive has been continued 30 feet during the past week. The country in the face still good,; otherwise there is no ohange.—T. H. Ch±w*obd.
