A MEETING- of Ihe Thames Rifle Bangers will be held at the ball this evening when some action will be taken in connection with the new Volunteer regulations.
At the last meeting.of the Thames County Council a 1 resolution was passed, to the effect that tenders be at once called for making the Waitekauri road. At yesterday's meeting Cr Porter enquired why this resolution bad not been carried out. The Chairman replied to the effect that considering the financial position of the Council he thought it advisable not to increase the overdraft. The resolution '■ in question' was virtually rescinded:by. a pro* po«al, made by Cr Porter, that the resolution be acted upon being loßt. .
A CBTCKET match will be played at Coromandel on Saturday next between the local club and a team from the Thames. The Blanche leaves here at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, returning the same evening. A few months ago a branoh of the Ancient Order of Druids Friendly Sooiety was opened in Auckland, and the member* of it hare had a shield prepared for presentation to the Arch Druid shewing the several' officers iv Ibeii' quaint regalia. This shield is now on exhibition, in the window of Mr Charles McLiver. We are informed that the preliminary steps hare already been taken to open a branch of the Society ou the Thames, and that a meeting of intending members will be held in the course of a few days.
We have been requested to correct an inaccuracy oeeurißg in the report of the Thames County Council meeting, which appears in the col nans of our morning contemporary. In the report on the matter of aid to drainage being paid to the Big Pump, Queen of Beauty Company, and,others in the Karabi and Hape Creek districts, Cr Porter ia stated to have moved the adoption of the report^ whereas he opposed its adoption, which was carried on a divieion of 4 t* '3— the voting being: For, the Chairman, and Ors Coutts, Ball, and Murdoch. At yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Committee, Dr Kilgour, in referring to the illnestfof the dispenser of the Hospital—Mr; Aitken—spoke in very high terms of praise of the energy and. ability displayed by that official in the discharge of bis duties in the institution.

Bull's mill has nob boon working for four or five weeks ; the Herald and Queen of Beauty batteries have been very little better oil 1, water only being available for a day o? two at a time, and the Alburnia mill also has bad to stop, work several times to allow a supply of water to accumulate in the reservoir. The Queen of Beauty turbine and the Golden Crowu battery, which have prior rights to the water, are the only motors which have been able to work regularly. This scarcity of water happens. at.an -unfortunate time, ns there.is a large supply of quartz ready for crushing at present, liain is also much needed to soften |^ ground, which is very, parched by the contiouous drought.

Particulars can be obtained at the office of the Board. The salary. £175 per annum, should be high enough to secure the services of a thoroughly competent man, which we .hope the Board will be successful in doing.
We have received a copy of the Thames Directory for 1883, published by the proprietors of the Advertiser. It is again a most creditable production, containing a large amount of information of Doth a local and general nature, and is certainly an improve* ment on previous issues.

At Koroit, Victoria, recently, (says the Standard) a man named Thomas Bence made a somewhat novel wager, and won if He" undertook to eat two and a half dozen egss, boiled hard, at a sitting, and accomplished the feat in 15 minutes.
